Most humans are never fully present in the now, because unconsciously they believe that the next moment must be more important than this one. But then you miss your whole life, which is never not now. ~Eckhart Tolle
I love how Eckhart makes things so clear without using many words. We do have so many conditioned programmed responses in our lives. And one of the main threads for most of us is to focus on the future. Often the present is too uncomfortable and triggers emotions we are afraid of dealing with.
The interesting thing is those emotions are a gift. They are like gold. They give us the opportunity to go within and find out who and what we truly are.
I love analogies that can make something like I just shared more practical. Here is one that could make sense.
If we have a physical symptom that is ongoing or repetitive, we will usually go to either a doctor or a natural practitioner to get it diagnosed, and then deal with treatment choices. That usually makes sense. If something is caught early, most serious diseases do need to be caught early, then there is a cure or a treatment that will save our lives in the more severe cases. Sometimes symptoms lead us to seek help and the cause is discovered as a surprise and we are so grateful that we were led to someone who will help us.
We were not taught to do this with our emotional and spiritual needs. They were supposed to be hush hush and not talked about or dealt with. Not many generations back, there was total shame and secrecy involved if someone had an emotional breakdown of any kind. This is the total opposite of what was socially acceptable about physical illness and disease. We were and still are encouraged to go to Medical professionals and take medications for every ache and pain.
That makes living in the present with an emotional upset way too painful to live with in the moment. Our programming is skewed and although many of us have shifted our beliefs and priorities, we are still in the minority. Much of humanity still lives in and for the future and miss the gift of healing entirely. Ahhh being human is so much fun.
